Following CDC Guidelines

In following the CDC’s guidelines and recommendations for COVID-19, as of December 1, 2023, Global Finals will be a mask-optional event. However, please keep in mind that this is subject to change based on local and CDC recommendations and guidelines at the time of the event.

Destination Imagination continues to encourage everyone who is eligible and able to be vaccinated. Vaccination is the leading public health prevention strategy to end the COVID-19 pandemic. Promoting vaccination can help schools safely return to in-person learning, as well as to extracurricular activities like Destination Imagination!

Destination Imagination considers the safety of its students, volunteers, and creative community to be the number one priority in hosting Global Finals.

The event will primarily take place in the Kansas City metropolitan downtown area. Our venues have impeccable histories of providing safety and security. We have partnered with security professionals, along with the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department, and emergency management personnel to oversee and execute the safety and security program.

Safety

  • Always have a head count of your team.
  • Please have details of each team member readily available on your mobile device or a simple notepad.
  • Make sure that you have both legal and decided names for each member.
  • Stick together and move as a group.
  • Always have your event Credentials.
  • Make sure that each member knows which hotel they are staying at, but tell them not to give any specific details to any unknown individuals.
  • Please make sure to have a form of identification while on-site. If you’re carrying a passport, we suggest making a color photocopy of your passports to have just in case, if needed.
  • For international students speaking languages other than English, consider equipping them with an English translation of their name, group leader name and contact information.
  • Rely on any uniformed staff for assistance if you have a question or concern.
  • Familiarize yourself with the CID Safety Ambassadors. You will see them throughout the city wearing yellow jackets. They can assist when needed or can summon the police.

A clear bag policy will be in effect at the Municipal Arena. Each team will receive a clear bag at registration. Team members should plan to bring minimal items. All items holding pins will have to be removable and must be easily examined. To avoid long wait times, please refrain from placing any pins on any articles of clothing that cannot be removed. Pin binders will not be allowed into the arena, so we encourage you to place pins on a pin towel, lanyard, or in your clear, approved plastic bag.

In the event of an emergency at Global Finals, an announcement will be made over the loudspeaker in the Convention Center. A notification will also be sent out through the Global Finals app.
